CeraVe Guide: Cleansers, Moisturizers & Sunscreens

CeraVe is a dermatologist-developed skincare brand built around ceramides, hyaluronic acid and, in many products, niacinamide. Its range is simple: cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreens and a few targeted treatments. That makes it popular for building a basic routine without guessing. This guide sorts the CeraVe products we stock by skin type and step, so you can pick the right one quickly.

Quick answer: Normal to oily skin: the Foaming Cleanser. Normal to dry skin: the Hydrating Cleanser. Dry skin and body: the Moisturizing Cream or Moisturizing Lotion. Rough, bumpy skin: the SA Smoothing products. Daily face moisturizer: AM in the morning and PM at night. Sun protection: the Invisible Hydrating SPF50+. See the whole CeraVe collection.

Tip: A simple CeraVe routine is a cleanser, a moisturizer and a sunscreen. Add one treatment at a time and give it 2-3 weeks. Use the retinol serum at night only, wear sunscreen every morning, and patch-test first. Want to compare brands? See the La Roche-Posay guide or the Bioderma guide.

Frequently asked questions

Which CeraVe cleanser is right for my skin?

The Foaming Cleanser Gel is made for normal to oily skin, and the Hydrating Cleanser for normal to dry skin. For rough or bumpy texture, look at the SA Smoothing Cleanser.

What is the difference between CeraVe Moisturizing Cream and Lotion?

The cream is richer and suits dry skin on the face and body. The lotion is lighter and easier to spread for daily use.

Can I use CeraVe AM and PM lotions together?

They are made for different times of day: AM in the morning and PM in the evening. Use whichever fits your routine, and always add sunscreen in the morning.

Is the CeraVe retinol serum for every day?

Start slowly, a couple of nights a week, and use it at night only. Wear sunscreen every morning and stop if your skin feels irritated.
