Frizz isn't a hair type and it isn't bad luck. It's what happens when dry hair meets humid air: the cuticle is raised, the hair takes in moisture from the atmosphere, swells unevenly and lifts. Which means the fix isn't fighting the weather, it's getting enough moisture and protein into the hair that it stops looking for it outside. That's why a mask does more for frizz than a serum does.

Start with a mask, not a styling product

Karseell Collagen Deep Repair Mask is the single most-bought haircare product on the whole site, and frizz is why. Fino Premium Touch Hair Mask is the Japanese cult one, and Elizavecca CER-100 Collagen Ceramide Protein Treatment is the protein-heavy option for hair that's been coloured or heat-damaged. Once a week is enough — more than that with protein can make hair feel stiff. See Treatments & Masks and Damage Repair.

Then seal it

Oils and serums don't hydrate — they close the cuticle so the moisture you added stays in and the humidity stays out. Kérastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum goes on before bed, which suits anyone who doesn't have time in the morning. Fino Hair Oil and Olaplex N7 Bonding Oil are the lighter daily options, and Revlon UniQ One is the multi-purpose one people keep in their bag. Ends only, and less than you think.

What's making it worse

Three habits cause most of the frizz we hear complaints about. Drying with a regular towel roughs up the cuticle — use a cotton t-shirt or a microfibre towel instead. Brushing dry hair breaks it and creates the halo of short broken pieces that reads as frizz. And heat styling without a protectant is the fastest way to make the problem permanent. See Heat-Damage Protection and Shine & Smoothness.

Frizz and curls aren't the same thing

Worth separating, because the products differ. Curly hair is a pattern; frizz is damage plus humidity. Curly hair can be perfectly healthy and still look frizzy if it's dehydrated, but it needs curl-specific care rather than smoothing products that flatten the pattern. See Curl Enhancement.

Questions people actually ask

Why is my hair frizzy only in summer?

Humidity. Dry hair absorbs water from the air, and Egyptian summer air has plenty of it. The answer is hydrating the hair properly, not avoiding the weather.

Protein or moisture — which does my hair need?

If it feels dry, rough and dull, moisture. If it stretches and snaps when wet, protein. If you overdo protein, hair goes stiff and straw-like, which is why alternating is safer than committing to one.

Does oil fix frizz?

Oil seals, it doesn't hydrate. Used alone on dry hair it makes frizz look better for a few hours and changes nothing underneath. Mask first, oil second.

Will a keratin treatment solve it permanently?

It smooths for a few months and then grows out, and repeated treatments come with their own damage. It's a valid choice, but it's a different decision from a care routine — and it doesn't remove the need for one.
